QOD #16: What if?
Is innovation so rare, and so hard, that we just don't pursue it anymore? I don't think we ask ourselves the question often enough - what if? What is the possibility of making that thought, that thing, that outcome happen?
Perhaps difficulty is the reason many do try. And fail. And succeed. I love problem-solving. It makes life so much more interesting and so much more fun.
This past weekend, I was a guest at #UPSummit in Las Vegas, hosted by UPGlobal - an initiative helping to build a more entrepreneurial world. It was amazing to meet and learn from so many interesting, smart people. I really came back energized and ready to help change the world.
The Downtown Project's Learning Village in Las Vegas was a center point for many of the sessions. It was encouraging to see the impact on business and commerce this initiative has had on the local economy. This initiative was spearheaded by Tony Hsieh of Zappos fame.
I attended a Q&A session with Steve Case of AOL fame and founder of the Case Foundation. He spoke of how innovation and entrepreneurship will help keep our world safe and allow economies to grow. This is a guy who gets it, as well as supports it!
A key takeaway for me was that every little innovation matters. We need to embrace and foster possibility in education and in business. If we encourage people to challenge the status quo, amazing things will happen.
